What to Expect When GTA 6 Reaches 210GB on PS5

If you're ready to play Grand Theft Auto VI, you know the wait. The big question is: how much storage will take up? This guide breaks down what we know about the game's download size, launch dates, and how to prepare your console. Whether you're targeting PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, you'll find the key details here.

The official download size for GTA 6 on PlayStation 5 is estimated at 210GB. This figure also applies to PS5 Pro. If you're planning a download, making sure your console has enough free space is important. The Xbox version is still being tracked, but it's likely to be similar in size.

Understanding these numbers helps you avoid running out of space before launch. Let's look at the details that matter most.

The Download Size: PS5 and Xbox Expectations

The 210GB size is tracked by PlayStation Game Size, a service that monitors PlayStation Store data. This number is a key factor for anyone organizing their storage.

For the Xbox version, estimates suggest it could also exceed 200GB, but an official figure hasn't been confirmed yet. The current numbers don't account for any post-launch updates that might increase the file size.

What to Check Before Downloading

• Free Storage Space: Ensure your console has at least 210GB available.
• Pro Version: If you have a PS5 Pro, remember the size applies to both models.
• Xbox Estimate: Keep an eye out for official updates, as the current estimate is just a guess.

Launch Dates and Preload Schedules

The preload date for GTA 6 is November 12, 2026. This is a crucial date for buyers. Once you place your order, you'll have seven days to download the game before the official launch.

The game's official release is set for November 19, 2026. Interestingly, the unlock time is also scheduled for that date at midnight local time. This means the launch will be progressive across different time zones rather than simultaneous worldwide.

Steps to Prepare for Launch

1. Place your order early: Getting your game before the preload starts helps.
2. Download ahead of time: Use your full seven-day window if needed.
3. Keep an eye on updates: Additional files may be available later.

The Review Window and Code Distribution

You'll also want to know about the review embargo. The distribution of review codes and content creators is expected to begin on November 18, 2026. This gives you extra time to experience the game before the official launch.

This approach is different from Red Dead Redemption 2, which had its codes available about a week before launch. While the file size might influence this, the strategy is about giving critics and players more time to share their thoughts.

Vice City: The Scale of the Open World

The 210GB download size fits into a much larger picture. Rockstar is building a massive open world, with Vice City expected to be about twice the size of Los Santos from GTA 5.

While the city's size is impressive, it doesn't fully capture the file requirements. The most useful preparation step is to keep an eye on the November 12 preload date. That's when you can verify the actual download size and ensure you have enough space for the full game.
